Happy 46th Birthday, Singapore!

Happy 46th Birthday, Singapore!

Today’s a special day for all of us. If you hit the streets… you’ll see a lot people dawning upon red and white combinations in their clothes, the colors that represent the Singapore Flag.

9th August marks our nation’s 46th year of independence.

A date to remember since the year 1965… when the fate of Singapore was molded from a poor little fishing village to now, one of the biggest financial giants in Asia.

Historically, Singapore’s economy was based primarily on its role as an entrepôt for neighboring countries due to its strategic geographic location at the entrance to the Straits of Malacca.

It did not have minerals or other primary products of its own to export, but it served a major economic function by processing and transshipping the goods of nearby lands.

The Port of Singapore is the busiest in the world, surpassing Rotterdam and Hong Kong.

A major change since the early 1960s when Singapore was still considered a third world country, with a small population of only 1.6 million people.

But unemployment rate was as high as 13.5% and a gross domestic product (GDP) capita of SGD 980 (USD 817)

Despite the disadvantage of not having our own natural resources (and having the chance of being bullied by our huge neighbors), we identify what’s our strength and continue to build and work on what we are good at.

Now, we are standing alongside financial giants and we have gone on to become one of the richest countries in the world, with a current population of 5 million people, an unemployment rate of 1.9% and a gross domestic product (GDP) capita of SGD59, 813 (USD 49,844).

We are now the Third–Highest per capita real income in the world.

Here’s the irony, we are so small that I doubt you even know the exact location of Singapore in the world map.

It’s because of the uncertainty, the Singapore Government worked hard to innovate the society and this cause our economy to grow and improve constantly.

Now size does not really matter to us anymore.

I can’t imagine what would happen to our country if our leaders were to acknowledge our limitations as a small country. Things would definitely not be the same.

Learning the history of Singapore’s economy has actually helped me improved my business quite a bit.

You see, I started out my online business in about just the same way.

I didn’t own products or any resources.

While my other peers were sitting around all day complaining that they didn’t had the resources to start… or they spent months trying out different things.

And just when they think they have found the right method, they have already ran out of steam and lose their interest.

So I decided to follow in Singapore’s footstep.

When I was new, I don’t have my own resource so I leverage on other people’s resources and products.

And I started promoting affiliate products on Clickbank.

When I made my first series of commissions, I decided to use some of the extra cash to outsource the traffic and I start creating my own products.

Because of the ties I had with the affiliate merchants when I was promoting their products, they in turn helped me out by promoting my new products to their subscribers.

And that’s when my business took off.

In fact, you can experience the same financial success in your internet business too and one day stand alongside financial giants in the industry, just like Singapore.

All you need to do is to believe in yourself and focus on what you need to do NOW.

Don’t look at your limitations, turn it around and use it to your advantage.

If you want to set up a squeeze page but don’t know how. Then get a webmaster to do it for you.
If you want to use article marketing to drive traffic to your website but don’t know how to write, then get a writer to write and submit for you.
If you have to have an e-cover design but don’t know how to use Photoshop, then get a designer to help you.

Forget about the limited knowledge that you have, turn it around and use it to your advantage.

In fact, you can grow your business much faster if you can look beyond what you know.

Just like Singapore, we didn’t just seat around waiting for hands-out. We look at our disadvantage and find a way to work around it.

That’s how we grow from Third world to First in only 30 years.

That’s all for today… I’m going to head down to my BBQ.

Happy National Day!
